Replying to a question from Miss Joan Quennell, the Secretary of State for the Department of Education and Science, Mr. Michael Stewart, said that there were 17 special schools for maladjusted children and 9 independent schools wholly or mainly for maladjusted children and 9 independent schools wholly or mainly for maladjusted children; 580 extra places in special schools, including extensions of existing ones, and 266 extra places in independent schools had become available since the issuing of Circular 4/61 in 1961. 7th.
